I constructed a solar water heating system. In this video, I demonstrate how I built the water heating solar panels. My current system has twenty panels with the ability to collect 500,000 BTU on a sunny day. Usually, I collect about ,000 BTU, which is still enough to easily heat our house for a day.

The cost approximately $450 to $500 each to build. Nevertheless, this is much cheaper than purchasing them from the open market.

UPDATE: The second set of solar panels has experienced multiple leaks. The connections between the header and the 1/4 I/D tubing constantly develop leaks. I am not sure why this continues to leak, while the first set (after three years of use) has not. For a DESIGN IMP I now wrap rings of 8 or 10 gauge copper house wire around the connections before soldering. This holds a fillet of solder at each joint and significantly reduces the chance of leakage. I plan to make a video of this improvement when I have time.
