McCarthy faces power test in conservative revolt

Following a week of setbacks that brought floor action to a standstill, thwarted GOP priorities, and raised concerns about Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s ability to navigate challenging policy battles, House Republicans are returning to Washington on Monday.

Republican leaders have planned a series of suspension votes for Monday evening, focusing on uncontroversial bills that are anticipated to pass smoothly with Democratic backing, The Hill reported.

However, the true challenge lies on Tuesday when they have scheduled floor action on a second set of proposals, including the four bills that were previously blocked.
