NDP MPs call for fair bargaining with Indigenous police forces – June 12, 2023

At a news conference on Parliament Hill, NDP MPs Carol Hughes (Algoma–Manitoulin–Kapuskasing, Ont.) and Lori Idlout (Nunavut) call on the federal government to negotiate a new contract with First Nation and Inuit police officers. They are joined by Julian Falconer (lawyer for Indigenous Police Chiefs of Ontario), Jefferey Skye (chief, Anishinabek Police Services), Kai Liu (chief, The Treaty Three Police Service) and James Killeen (chief, Anishinaabe Police Service) They outline a complaint that is being submitted to the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal related to discriminatory policies pursued by the federal government with regards to Indigenous policing in Canada.
