In 1970, Hollywood was burning and the box office was collapsing due to an exhaustion of Spaghetti Westerns, Fred Astaire and Grace Kelly Dancing films. When Hollywood ran out of ideas, they turned to exploiting poverty in African American neighbourhoods. African Americans now living for Martin Luther Kings "I want to fit in" version of America, we now had to look to our oppressor for inclusion and came out to support these films in droves. Blaxploitation films saved Hollywood by glamourising the hardships of poverty, romanticising Crime, Narcotics, Prostitution ..and by 1980 this ended.

But in 1991 it returned with the emergence of Gangster Rap exploiting these nieghborhoods again. HipHop was born out of the Blaxploitation Era and as of today, African Americans have not recovered from it.
