Hi, it’s Patrik Hutzel from intensivecarehotline.com with another quick tip for families in intensive care.
So recently I was doing a podcast with one of our associates, Kali Dayton from Dayton ICU Consulting. Kali is a nurse practitioner in the US who has worked in ICU where they don’t sedate people even though they put them on a breathing tube and on a ventilator. So, in 99% of intensive care units, patients will be sedated and on a ventilator.
Now, Kali has shared in a podcast with me, which I link towards this video, that patients don’t need to be sedated and go into an induced coma because of mechanical ventilation and the breathing tube. That obviously offers an alternative, and it is a very innovative method to avoid harming the patients from an induced coma. And she said something that is really revealing on this podcast.
