Walgreens has reached a $500 million settlement with the state of New Mexico over its involvement in the opioid epidemic. The settlement comes after allegations that Walgreens failed to identify unnecessary prescriptions and continued to fill them, contributing to the crisis. In addition to this settlement, New Mexico has previously reached agreements with Albertsons, CVS, Kroger, and Walmart, totaling $274 million, with the settlement funds aimed at combating opioid addiction.
