The Reason Behind Jon Jones' Hiatus

Current UFC Heavyweight champion Jon Jones is one of the most polarizing figures the sport has ever seen. He has courted multiple controversies throughout his illustrious career. While becoming the champion has shifted the focus to the future, it should not be forgotten that Jones sat out of the sport for more than three years prior to his recent fight. While part of the reason was to get the most lucrative offer, Jones was also looking out for his fellow fighters. Fighter pay in the UFC is a controversial and complicated topic and Jones on more than one occasion, including on Steve-O's Wild Ride! podcast confirmed that he was willing to sit at home to bring to light the fact that UFC fighters rarely get paid properly and even top tier fighters aren't immune to this. Jones probably lost millions by sitting out for three years but if it helps fighters get a fair pay in the long run, it will be a just sacrifice for a noble cause.
