"The Welchkins" (4k) Uncanny Animated Nightmare Fuel | 1983 Welch's Grape Jelly Commercial

Oh lawdy, it's the Welchkins. There's something off about this animation. The cartoon is like a story book come to life and it's just weird. I can't put my finger on it, but it's just odd. Like the juxtaposition of what's supposed to be a real person with these nightmare gnomes is unsettling.

Maybe it's just too much production value for grape jelly. Like I'm not used to someone hiring animators (back when stuff had to be hand drawn) to make a commercial for jelly. Strawberry rhubarb (or just regular strawberry) is obviously the superior jelly anyway. Plus this is the time of Gremlins and Ghoulies. So it's weird they'd hop on the tiny elf gnome thing bandwagon for their advertisements.

The Welchkins were made by (ad agency) Jordan, Case & McGrath. They apparently invented "Namenomics" which is naming something good to sell it good, I guess.
