The tragic story of one of UFC's greatest champions - Cain Velasquez
The Heavyweight division of the UFC has always been filled with scary fighters and yet Cain Velasquez set himself apart as one of the best ever. The two-time champion had a distinguished career that included records such as the most takedowns in UFC Heavyweight history and the highest significant strike percentage. Outside the octagon, he was known as a stand-up person who was extremely helpful to those around him. Sadly, his life would take a very dark turn on February 28, 2022, when he was arrested on attempted murder charges for shooting at Harry Goularte. His intended target had allegedly sexually abused his then 4-year-old son and had been released on bail. Velasquez spent 8 months in jail before posting bail and the trial is still going on. Many in the MMA community have come out in strong support of Cain and his actions as a father. Regardless of whether Cain gets convicted or acquitted, the former champ's life has taken a dark turn he did not deserve.
