A SHORT, SELF LIFE

I heard a song rolling through my spirit today from my past. The words were, "Let me lose myself, and find it, Lord, in thee, may all self be Lost, my friends, see only you."
As I began to sing it to myself, the Spirit of God said, "You need a short shelf life if you're going to develop my life."
The Christian life is often compared to the natural progression of our life. The apostle Paul said, "When I was a child, I spoke as a child. I understood as a child, but when I became a man, I put away childish things."
We are to understand by that revelation that our walk with Christ is intended to be a developing walk from childhood to manhood.
That means having a short shelf life is rather essential if we're going to develop the Christ life. It's like the old western theme when the sheriff comes to the bad guy and says, "This town isn't big enough for both of us to get out of town by noon."
In our case, the sheriff is the Holy Spirit, and he stands in front of our self-will and declares to us there's not enough room here for both of us. One of us must die. To continue with this illustration, we do understand the Holy Spirit will not abuse us or break our necks, but he will be persistent.
Somewhere in the development of our spiritual journey, we get the clue and confess what John the Baptist did. When he said, "I must decrease in Christ must increase."
So there you go; that's how simple it is to be a Christian. Just get out of the way and let the Holy Spirit build you into that spiritual giant that God sees you even now.
It's good to have a short shelf life.
