Consciousness is not in the brain

Consciousness is not in the brain; rather, the brain is in consciousness. The brain, like all objects in the world of experience, is a perception within consciousness.
Brain activity does not generate consciousness any more than the motion of wind turbines generates wind. Wind turbines merely convert wind into a usable form of energy; the motion of the turbines is not the cause of the wind. Similarly, the brain merely converts consciousness into a usable form of cognition, perception and action; brain activity is not the cause of consciousness.

(from the article “Why Materialism is Baloney by Bernardo Kastrup)

While consciousness is intimately tied to the brain, it may also involve processes that extend beyond the brain, such as those that occur in the body, the environment, and even at the quantum level. ( Bobby Azarian, cognitive neuroscientist)
