Share. Subscribe. The SUN is 1,651.29 miles away when circling the equator. The MOON is 1,550-1,600 miles away on its' circuit on average. This is found by using Basic trigonometry's " Angle of Elevation ". Polaris " the central north star " is 6,589 miles away above earth. This is found using: Basic Celestial Navigation and Basic Trig's "Angle of Elevation ". Perception and Perspective play an immense role in the way we see and hear things. There are complete differences between the two.
