Egypt bans Dutch archaeology team from Saqqara due to museum’s ‘Afrocentric’ exhibition

Following an exhibition titled “Kemet: Egypt in Hip Hop, Jazz, Soul & Funk” at the National Museum of Antiquities (RMO) in Leiden, a team of archaeologists from the Dutch museum has faced a ban on conducting excavations in Egypt’s Saqqara necropolis.

The Egyptian authorities expressed their disapproval of the exhibition, accusing the museum of distorting history with its “Afrocentric” approach, CNN reported.

This development was reported by the Dutch newspaper NRC on Monday, stating that the head of foreign missions of the Egyptian Antiquities Service conveyed their concerns to the RMO via email.
