Ron Desantis & Guantanamo Bay

I know this video may anger a lot of people. But I hope you’ll listen to it all, take note of DeSantis’s direct quotes, and overall approach the concept with an open mind. We tend to get tribalistic about politicians that we like, and what I’m attempting to show here is that just because someone is good on a couple things, or says all the “right things” doesn’t mean that person deserves your support, or even believes in the principles you believe in! Politicians will say and do what they need to to consolidate power—DeSantis is just one example of that.

Speaking specifically to this video, I want to reiterate that what makes this subject so sinister is that after being so intimately involved in what happened at Guantanamo, DeSantis chose to continue defending and supporting it. Many other men in his same position chose the opposite route. Many men were courageous enough to not only ask to be relieved from their duties there because it is was a betrayal to their own morality as well as their oath to practice the law ethically—but these same men also had the courage to actively speak out about Guantanamo, and worked to close the prison.
