This is a quick After Effects tutorial to show you how you can make pie charts using circle shapes. This allows them to be way more flexible to style, and a ton easier to animate than using Radial Wipe—especially if you intend to animate in both directions. Radial Wipe can also have issues with precomps that are set to continuously rasterize because it relies on effect center, and that can change if you move things around.

For the data minded nerds out there like me, you can also go deeper with expressions to make your pie slices to the exact size they need to be to fit real-world data. While this tutorial doesn’t show it, you can even bring in CSV data to animate the slices.
