In today's episode, we're down in Astoria, Oregon catching Columbia River Keeper Sturgeon! We had the opportunity to go fishing with Eric Swanson and a few of his clients in search of one of the best eating fish the Columbia River has to offer. This is a highly regulated fishery with strict rules on when you can keep these magnificent fish! We explain the rules in the episode. One of the rules that helps protect the population is you can’t fish past 2 pm on opener days. When sturgeon fishing you use baits like sand shrimp, anchovy, worms & more. The bait is cast out and fished off the bottom in all different water depths depending on what the tide is doing. The weather is good, the fishing is great, and it was an adventure! We have a couple of guys on board that have NEVER even caught a sturgeon, so this should be a good one.
