Alberta Election 2023 recap: UCP wins majority

Danielle Smith’s storm cloud of controversy was not enough to deter Alberta voters from handing her United Conservative Party a second term in government.

By the time the UCP was celebrating a majority win shortly after 11 p.m., Elections Alberta counted only 1.1 million votes among 2.8 million eligible voters. The UCP was leading in 50 ridings, while the NDP was ahead in 37, putting Rachel Notley’s New Democrats back in the opposition benches.

Trudeau plans record number of immigrants to Canada through 2024

Canada, a country that relies heavily on immigration to grow its labor force, has set an ambitious plan to bring in more than 1.3 million newcomers over the next three years to support its post-pandemic growth.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government aims to add more than 431,000 permanent residents this year, 447,000 in 2023 and 451,000 in 2024, according to the 2022-24 Immigration Levels Plan released on Monday. Figures for this year and 2023 have been revised higher from earlier targets of 411,000 and 421,000, respectively.

Differences Between a Country, State, and Nation

While the terms country, state, sovereign state, nation, and nation-state are often used interchangeably, there is a difference. Simply put:

A state is a territory with its own institutions and populations.
A sovereign state is a state with its own institutions and populations that has a permanent population, territory, and government. It must also have the right and capacity to make treaties and other agreements with other states.
A nation is a large group of people who inhabit a specific territory and are connected by history, culture, or another commonality.
A nation-state is a cultural group (a nation) that is also a state (and may, in addition, be a sovereign state).

Diversity Is Not Our Strength — And The Lie Is Deliberate

“Diversity is our strength.” You’ve heard it over and over again, and it seems simple enough. It doesn’t matter if it’s not true; it’s a basic feel-goodism — the kind of phrase that adorns the kitschy signs Bed Bath and Beyond sells for people to hang in their kitchen. A “live, laugh, love” sort of thing. If only.

The hypocrisy of multiculturalism in Canada

To outsiders, Canada is a land synonymous with multiculturalism and acceptance. Yet, Canadians seem to be all too eager to reject an integral aspect of their global identity.

Multiculturalism - An Evil Ideology Designed To Destroy The West

Until very recently British politicians and journalists were forever eulogizing on the merits of a multicultural society. They told us how enriching it was and how we should celebrate our vibrant diversity hitherto unavailable in the racially stale and homogenous West. However, despite these outpourings of praise verging on the messianic I have yet to hear any of them elaborate on the concrete positives of multiculturalism.
