These New Yorkers have money to buy food, but they think it’s a good thing to dumpster dive for food that goes unsold and uneaten. They are called freegans and they save food from waste. An astounding 100 million tons of food is trashed in the US every year. So why let a perfectly edible bagel go to waste?
New York’s freegans rummage in garbage bins and show how much good food is thrown away just because it doesn’t look perfect, or it’s approaching its expiry date.
Check out how to eat in New York for free, and help curb the US food waste problem.
