The UN & You - Local Elections Enrolment Week

Jaspreet and Gill point out that there are well over a thousand positions up for grabs across New Zealand – from regional councillors to city councillors, district councillors and community board members. Main stream media has been reporting on the "shortage of candidates" these past few days like in this press release
https://www.lgnz.co.nz/news-and-media/2022-media-releases/big-push-for-more-local-government-nominations/
from LGNZ where is reported that:
"Local Government NZ (LGNZ) is concerned that some roles won't be filled, or key roles will go uncontested at this year's local body elections unless more candidates throw their hat in the ring before nominations close on Friday."
Community board roles* are the most straightforward to get into as there are a large number of positions available and low levels of interest from the general public. Community board members are paid between $6,000 - $9,000 per year for a dozen or so meetings per year. For the ability to represent and do good for your community this sounds like a good deal to us!
Our Local Body Elections web page
https://www.voicesforfreedom.co.nz/local-body-election
has more detailed instructions of what is required. You'll find a PDF to locate the relevant web links for your local council and the above form.
Requirements for running as a candidate:
– Complete an application form - available via the local government links in our PDF.
– Provide proof of New Zealand citizenship.
– Pay the $200 fee.
– Write a 150 word blurb to describe your positions and what you are standing for.
– Find two people to nominate you – the two nominators must reside in the area you are standing in.
We are encouraging concerned New Zealanders (not just VFF members and supporters) who understand the issues at stake to stand as independents so as to get into these positions and start affecting positive change from within the system. (Don't put "Voices for Freedom" or "VFF" as the affiliation or group represented when filling out the candidate paperwork ("the nomination form"). Any candidate from our community will be in a good position to gain support from their local VFF community.)
