John Wayne Gacy had a hidden secret in his crawl space.

"It was a secret place. Those are my bodies."
"That's where I wanted to keep them. They had no right to touch them"

People knew John Wayne Gacy as a successful building contractor who spent his free time dressed as ‘Pogo the Clown’ or ‘Patches the Clown’ at charitable events and children’s hospitals. While he looked and acted trustworthy, Gacy was using their trust as an advantage to almost get away with thirty-three murders between 1972 and 1978.
The disappearance of a 15 year old boy, Robert Piest, led the police to Gacy, linking the 'killer clown' to the shocking number of his killings.
"I think we got a basement full of kids here."
"There are things that you could do that you wouldn't do as a person.."
Gacy shocked the police when he told them that:
"Clowns can get away with anything, clowns can get away with murder."

Gacy was sentenced to death row on March 13, 1980. His life ended by lethal injection at Stateville Correctional Center on May 10, 1994.
