WHEN THE STORM COMES-HUDDLE UP

When God made mankind, he also made animals and placed within both of them the understanding of survival in tough times. If you study the animal kingdom, you will see those godly traits that have enabled them to survive through centuries despite their adversaries.
There is a fantastic documentary about the penguins at the south pole. As you watch it in the comfort of your warm family room, you can't imagine any living creature surviving in that harsh climate. Yet, if you notice what they do, you will see the hand of God on those creatures, the same hand that created us.
When the storm comes, they move together in a tight collection of bodies sharing each other's heat. As the storm continues, the outer layer rotates inward, taking turns braving the storm and its chilling effect.
The writer of Hebrews tells us in the 10th chapter that when you see the storm coming, don't neglect to come together for spiritual heat. He goes on to explain that we should encourage and pray for one another in this time of difficult days.
I don't think the Hebrews author referred to a once-a-week hour experience in a church building. In tough times, that's not enough. The New Testament church met daily to encourage one another and to remember the promises that the scriptures and the voice of God had given them.
In the society that we live in today, we certainly have a multitude of ways to huddle up. Not to discount the church meetings but let them be a foundation for your faith. There are so many ways that we can huddle up, including small groups that meet on the job before we go to work. Or a Bible study prayer meeting under the bleachers at the high school during the breaks.
