Kakhovskaya HPP destroyed

According to eyewitnesses, the dam at the Kakhovskaya HPP collapsed because of past damage.

There is no official information on the destruction of the dam and the reasons for it yet,

More than 80 settlements, including Kherson, will be in the zone of rapid flooding. Hundreds of thousands of people may be affected. The water supply to a large part of southern Ukraine may be destroyed. The destruction of the hydropower plant may leave the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant without water for cooling.

In addition, the destruction of the Kakhovska dam will exclude the possibility of water supply to Crimea for the next few years.

The water level downstream of the Dnieper is reported to be rising.
