I understand and sympathize with the vegan community over their shock, confusion, and despondence regarding Alex O'Connor's recent announcement about his consuming animal products. It can be difficult to process such an abrupt change in the narrative of a public figure we admire and look to for guidance and support.

It's been nice to see many comments from the vegan community (including some videos) expressing love, patience, and respect for Alex (even if they're disappointed), but it's such a shame that the same can't be said for many YouTube vegan activists. It's truly disappointing to see how few of them have extended even the smallest measure of charity and compassion to someone who's done more for their movement in recent years than they wil in their life.

If I had a dollar for each piece of conjecture and assumption that's been made about Alex's thought process, reasoning, health, and even his upbringing, I'd be as filthy rich as some commentators have insisted that he is (which is yet another unfounded, ridiculous assumption)

At its heart, veganism is about love, and surely the loving thing to do in this situation is to give a figure who's given so much to veganism the space and time he needs to clarify his thoughts before ripping him to shreds over pure conjecture.

At this time, no one commenting knows what Alex's diet consists of, not to mention his mindset, but I'm willing to wager that he still does a damn sight more than the average person when it comes to making conscious choices about what he eats and where he gets his food from. Likewise, all of the piercingly potent points regarding veganism that he's made in the past are still as relevant today as they were yesterday. His contribution to veganism can't be understated.

Again, I know most vegans have shown love, but damn, it's sad to see so much hate among other "leaders."
