Rejoice in what is found (The lost coin, Luke 15:8-10)
Rejoice in what is found (The lost coin, Luke 15:8-10)
A few years back there was popular hobby that people enjoyed called Geo-Cache hunting. Individuals would use GPS devises to search for hidden caches that contained prizes, information, or some other surprise. When they found a cache that would post on social media that they found one and then they would relocate and restock it for someone else to find. You would see people posting pictures with huge smiles on their faces as you could tell that they were excited and happy to have located what they were searching for, it was like they had found a hidden treasure. In the parable of the lost coin the woman is not seeking for the coin as a hobby, she is seeking for it out of necessity. What she is seeking for is very important to her and she will not give up until she finds it and has it back in her hands. This type of perseverance and commitment is mostly lost on our modern society because we have raised a generation that does not value anything or anyone. They do not value human life, they do not value others possession or their own, and they do not value the most important thing in this world, a relationship with God. They have been raised to selfishly put themselves first and to expect others around them to bow to their commands, wants, and needs.
This type of mindset can not understand the parable of the lost coin because it was not their fault, they lost the cost, and they will just ask someone else to replace it for them. If they stumble upon it that is cool, but there is no way they are going to inconvenience themselves to search for it. The sad thing this is the way that they fill not only about personal possessions but also individuals. They have been taught that unborn babies are not worth fighting for and have been completely desensitized to death and violence by the way the entertain themselves. They do not see their own value and they do not see why anyone would want to take the time and effort to have a relationship with them on an intimate level. They find it hard to believe that God is seeking to be in a relationship with them, but this is exactly what is going on. Just as the women rejoiced when she found the lost coin, we must understand that God rejoices when one of His lost children returns home. God is not happy because he found some random geo-cache, He is happy because a soul has been snatched from the very pits of hell and now that individual has eternal happiness to look forward to instead of eternal torment. That is something to rejoice over, that is something to celebrate, and that is something that we should all want for ourselves and our loved ones.
