The funding has birthed several space mission projects, such as the Voyager 2 spacecraft which made a close flyby of Neptune on August 25, 1989. Nothing has returned to Neptune since, but that may be changing soon as scientists have recently found out information about the planet that challenges our most fundamental understandings.
