Why the America fears ISI
The Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) is the premier intelligence agency of Pakistan, responsible for gathering and analyzing intelligence within the country and conducting covert operations abroad. The perception of fear or concerns regarding the ISI from certain quarters in the United States can be attributed to several factors:
Historical context: The ISI has been involved in activities that have had an impact on American interests in the past. For example, during the Soviet-Afghan War in the 1980s, the ISI worked closely with the United States to support Afghan resistance fighters against the Soviet Union. However, some individuals and groups supported by the ISI later turned against American interests, such as the Taliban.
Allegations of supporting terrorism: The ISI has faced accusations of supporting and sponsoring militant groups operating in the region, particularly in relation to Afghanistan. There have been claims that the ISI has maintained connections with elements of the Afghan Taliban, including providing them with sanctuary, training, and other forms of support. This has led to concerns about the ISI's role in destabilizing the region and posing a threat to American forces and interests in Afghanistan.
Intelligence gathering capabilities: The ISI is known for its extensive intelligence gathering capabilities, which include monitoring regional developments, tracking militant groups, and infiltrating various organizations. The scale and effectiveness of the ISI's intelligence operations have raised concerns among some American officials who worry about the agency's ability to gather information on U.S. activities and potentially compromise American security interests.
Perceived influence over Pakistan's government: The ISI is often seen as a powerful institution in Pakistan, with some considering it to have a significant influence over the country's political affairs. This perceived influence has led to concerns that the ISI may pursue its own agenda, which could be at odds with American interests in the region, particularly when it comes to counterterrorism efforts and stability in Afghanistan. #nsa #america #rumble
