On Sunday, June 4, 2023, at 1 p.m. U.S. Pacific Time, the U.S. Transhumanist Party is streaming an AI Town Hall, which was hosted on May 21, 2023, by Zack Kopp of Camp Elasticity, and to which U.S. Transhumanist Party Officers, candidates, and members were invited in order to discuss recent developments in artificial intelligence and answer various critiques. A large part of the audio of the AI Town Hall was recorded and transformed into a slide-based video with AI-generated images of most of the participants. Subjects addressed included the capabilities and limitations of generative AI, how humans can adapt to the emergence of AI and see it as an opportunity instead of a threat, the role of AI in ecology, whether generative AI infringes on the rights and well-being of human writers and artists, what AI has to teach us about creativity, the importance of keeping AI truly open-source and broadly available, as well as implications of AI for philosophy, religion, education, and more.

Participants in this lively discussion included the USTP’s 2024 campaign ticket, U.S. Presidential candidate Tom Ross and U.S. Vice-Presidential candidate Daniel Twedt, Chairman Gennady Stolyarov II, Legislative Director Jason Geringer, and (briefly) member Aida Ćemalović.

The AI Town Hall will be followed by a brief Musical Q&A during which Chairman Stolyarov’s 2015 composition, Variations on a Theme by WolframTones, Op. 80, will be played, followed by a version of Chairman Stolyarov’s Sonata-Allegro #1, Op. 55 (2008), which was remastered by Jason Geringer in 2022.
