Psykers and Heretics // WH40K Rogue Trader - Beta // Episode 2

Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader is being developed by OwlCat Games as a CRPG. The game is currently entering its Beta and access was opened up for playtesting for those that preordered the game (and you can still preorder and get access if you so choose). I put about 48 hours into the Alpha pretest and it's time to jump head first into the Beta.

Warhammer 40k is a dark sci-fi/fantasy universe in which humanity is beset on all sides by xenos (aliens), denizens of the warp (demons), and each other. In Rogue Trader we will take the part of the titular Rogue Trader and command a trade empire with its fleets and colonies as we work to uncover a chaos conspiracy threatening our house as well as the Empire of Man. A Rogue Trader is a person who holds a Warrant from the undying Emperor (also called the Corpse God depending on who you are) that allows them to explore the galaxy and gives them a huge amount of freedom and power to do pretty much whatever they please. They generally explore, create colonies and build up their trade empire and personal power with plenty of time left over for other hobbies. The computer game is based on a table top roleplaying game which is itself based on the lore of a table top strategy game. Converting table top RPGs into computer RPGs has been OwlCats party trick to date. Their version of Pathfinder (which included two games) was received very well and while their quality control can be questioned (and should be questioned) their vision and ambition should not. Here's hoping that WH40k Rogue Trader can live up to and hopefully surpass their previous efforts.
