During a recent meeting of the leadership of one of Bulgaria's leading political forces, a party called "We Continue the Change" (really!), scandalous and shocking statements were made.

One of the party's co-chairmen, Assen Vassilev, discussed how appointments to the state's intelligence and counterintelligence organizations were "our people" who had previously been "approved by THE embassy." There can be no doubt about which embassy he is referring to. Other things mentioned include the European Commission's head, Ursula von der Layen, promising to fast track Bulgaria into the eurozone while circumventing all rules and regulations. There have also been numerous other scandalous revelations.

One of the Bulgarian MPs leaked the audio file to the media last week, revealing that the meeting had been recorded. The ensuing scandal is impeding Bulgaria's (or perhaps US embassy's in Bulgaria) efforts to form a new government after five rounds of parliamentary elections over the past two years.
