From Forest to France, 1918

Portable barracks are made in southern States and erected in France. Reel 1, trees are felled and trimmed, floated in streams, and loaded on railroad cars by steam hoists. Logs are sawed at a mill with rip and gang saws. Reel 2, wood panels are sorted, painted and tied together. The sections are loaded on a cargo ship. The lumber is unloaded from a docking raft in a French port. Floor panels are nailed and end panels erected. Reel 3, roof panels and window sashes are installed.
