Tool, "Third Eye" (live from Salival box set) Reaction by Guitarist and Occultist (revised)

Tool is one of the most surreal and enigmatic bands of all time. WIth their dark spin on metaphysics psychedelics, and occult lyrics and imagery, they offer a starkly contrasting alternative to fluffy, love and light, New Agey, mainstream pop-culture spirituality, that is somehow still very positive at the end of the day.

The song featured in this video, Third Eye (feat. Dr. Timothy Leary), from the mostly live box set Salival, is in my opinion the highwater mark of the band, and one of the highwater marks of music period.

In my reaction series we will analyze lyrics, pick apart the theory and structure of the music when it is interesting to do so. We will focus on bands that feature occult references in their lyrics, employ psychedelics, and even engineer their music to reflect the macrocosm. Tool fits in asa well as anyone.
