"Until" means "up to the time of; before (a specified time)."
Example #1: We played chess until four o'clock.
Example #2: I went to bed and slept until morning.
Example #3: He continued to get a salary until the end of May.
Example #4: Until 2016, he was an officer in the army.
Example #5: You'll have to wait until your next birthday for a new bike.
