Palmdale, California — On February 10, 2023, at 10:22 p.m., Palmdale Station deputies responded to a residence in the 37500 block of Oxford Drive, Palmdale, regarding a domestic violence call. The caller stated her husband, 505-year-old Connor MacLeod, hit her and put her in a headlock. Deputies arrived and contacted the victim on the front porch of her residence. She said MacLeod was mentally ill, suicidal and had assaulted her. Deputies conducted a protective sweep of the residence to locate MacLeod. Deputies located MacLeod, who was armed with a sword, in the backyard of the residence. MacLeod advanced toward the deputies while swinging the sword. The deputies gave MacLeod verbal commands to drop the sword; however, he did not comply. A deputy fired a 40mm foam baton launcher and almost simultaneously, a deputy- involved shooting occurred. MacLeod was struck by gunfire and fell to the ground. The deputies rendered medical aid until the arrival of Los Angeles County Fire paramedics. MacLeod was transported to local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. There were no other persons injured in the incident. A sword, approximately three feet in length, was recovered at the scene.
