How to prepare for a layoff

First, and foremost, I would trust your gut. Every time myself, or people around me, have felt they were going to lose their job, they ended up being correct.
Your medical insurance is probably through your job if you are like most people. Make you are all on top of all your medical related things. Try and get appointments moved forward. Also, make you have filled all your prescriptions. If you have a flex spend account, now is the time to use it.
Start working on your resume and updating it. There are people that write professional resumes out there, but I don’t think most people will require this.
Start applying for new jobs. It really can’t hurt. You do not want to put yourself in a situation where you are laid off and scrambling to find a job. Hiring can be a long and drawn out process, especially now. I have a video about how some professionals are going through 5 to 8 rounds of interviews for one job.
Get your finances in shape. Make and review your budget
Use your professional network. There is someone you know out there that can get your resume to the top of the pile. Reach out to people you haven’t spoke in awhile. You might consider even getting your job references ready.
Make sure you do none of this on a work computer. Do not give your job a reason to fire you, or allow them to get more evidence for them to argue you do not qualify for unemployment.
If you do get laid off, don’t wait for the perfect job to come along, epsicially if you get denied unemployment benefits.
