But what is happening in CH 35-36 is the legacy of the 2 brothers, Esau and Yakob. And then the story moves on. So we will spend a little time on this CH.
In revenge, her brothers kill the men of the city and take the women and children. Many see it as unnecessary, but I will say that the women and children come to follow the One True GOD, and give up the worship of false GOD’s, thus having eternal life with GOD.
GOD says again that Yakob’s new name is Israel (GEN 32:28). GOD reminds Israel (notice the name) that nations will come from him (Israel = Yakob). Kings will come from his descendants. Land promised to his ancestors Abraham and Isaac will belong to him and his descendants.
This is the legacy of Esau. That legacy, well there are 2 peoples that emerge from this book of origins, the book of beginnings. Yes, there great prophecies as well. But these 2 peoples, one, the people of Yahweh, through Abraham, Isaac, Yakob, Yoseph… The other from Esau, who represent the people who are the eternal enemy of Yahweh.
