Collin Gow, C.N.C., his son August, and a new guest go foraging for wild blackberries in Florida. Together they identify and discuss not only blackberries, but many other wild, edible, and medicinal plants, lichens, and fungi and their biological actions, health benefits, nutritional properties, and ethnomedicinal and Native American uses. Special finds include: Pennsylvania Blackberry (Rubus pensilvanicus), Sand Blackberry (Rubus cuneifolius), Highbush Blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum), Shiny Blueberry (Vaccinium myrsinites), Sparkleberry (Vaccinium arboreum), Dwarf Dangleberry (Gaylussacia nana), Rhexia mariana, Spanish Needles, Plantago major, Leccinum roseoscabrum (Bolete mushroom), Eastern North American Destroying Angel (mushroom), an unidentified Bolete mushroom, Dyemarker's False Puffball mushroom (Pisolithus arhizus), and much more! Habitats traversed include: oak hammock, pine woods, grassy meadows, and cypress swamps. Subjects such as botany, morphology, phenology, phytochemistry, ethnopharmacology, folk medicine, traditional medicine, natural medicine, and Native American (American Indian) medicine come up while on the hike.
