Métis National Council President Cassidy Caron and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau deliver remarks as the Crown–Métis Nation Summit, an annual meeting between federal ministers and Métis Nation leaders, gets underway in Ottawa. The meeting builds on the processes established within the Canada-Métis Nation Accord, which was signed by Prime Minister Trudeau and Métis Nation representatives in April 2017. Caron urges the federal government to introduce legislation for Métis self-government prior to Parliament's summer recess. The prime minister also comments on the Alberta Métis communities that have been impacted by the ongoing wildfires in that province. (June 1, 2023)
