Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announces a National Day Against Gun Violence will be observed annually on the first Friday of June. It will be marked for the first time on June 2, 2023. Masai Ujiri (vice-chair and team president of the Toronto Raptors and co-founder of Giants of Africa), John Wiggins (vice-president, Organizational Culture and Inclusion for the Toronto Raptors), and James Cadogan (executive director, NBA Social Justice Coalition) also make remarks. The national day will honour victims of gun violence and aims to raise awareness of gun violence. Trudeau met with gun safety advocates prior to making the announcement.
