George Kelly Barnes 1900 – 1954) was an american gangster better known "Machine Gun Kelly", a career criminal from Memphis, Tennessee, active during the Prohibition his favorite weapon, was a Tommy submachine gun. KELLY is best known for the kidnapping of oil tycoon and businessman Charles F. Urschel in 1933, his gang collected a $200,000 ransom BUT THESE THUGS left considerable evidence that assisted THE FBI in pinning the caper on th kelly which led to Kelly's arrest in Memphis, Tennessee, 1933
His crimes also included bootlegging and armed robbery.
Machine Gun Kelly spent his last 21 years in prison. including a long stint at Alcatraz, where he got the nickname "Pop Gun Kelly." because he would exaggerate his escapades
Kelly was a model prisoner and did not act like the brutal gangster the media and FBI had made him out to be He spent 17 years on Alcatraz as inmate number 117, he was transferred to Leavenworth in 1951. He died of a heart attack the day after his 54th birthday
