Speaker McCarthy delivers remarks after the passage of debt ceiling deal

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA): "And you've got to understand this was not easy. This negotiation blew up a number of times where I wasn't sure at times we weren't going to get somewhere. There were times that one side would say to the others, maybe we need to give up, maybe we have to have somebody else different in the room that maybe we're not doing something that you're not seeing the way we're seeing it. But the one thing that happened is that we didn't give up, that we believed we could find a place. I know the country is divided. I watched Congress divided today. I watched my own Congress, my own conference. I will work to make sure everybody comes back. It might not be easy, but it's too important to let go."
