Russian mercenaries from the private Wagner Group have reportedly started moving out of some of their positions in and around the eastern town of Bakhmut, the epicenter of the war in Ukraine's eastern Donetsk region, according to senior Ukrainian and British intelligence officials.

Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of the mercenary group that spearheaded the attack on Bakhmut, said on May 25 its fighters had started leaving the city and would be replaced by regular Russian troops.
