Milton William "Bill" Cooper (May 6, 1943 – November 5, 2001) often voiced his belief that it was part of a much larger, global conspiracy. He saw Freemasonry as a secretive and powerful organization that manipulates world events for their own benefit. He often associated it with his views on the New World Order, a global, totalitarian government, which he claimed the Freemasons were trying to establish. Cooper's theories often extended to suggesting that Freemasonry is influenced by, or synonymous with, other groups he saw as similarly nefarious, like the Illuminati or various intelligence agencies.
