Can we forgive those that have even killed our loved ones? This is what God called Jonah to do.

The Assyrians were ruthless and cruel conquerors. Assyrians murdered, raped, kidnapped, and plundered the Hebrews and God wanted to relent his judgment against them! The fact that Jonah knew that God would forgive the Ninevites if they repented surely seemed unjust to Jonah considering that the Assyrians had been cruel conquerors to Jonah's people.

How was Jonah to feel? Jonah didn't want to go preach repentance to Nineveh. Do we rebel against God's commands in our lives? How easy is it to turn away from difficult situations.

Yet forgiveness is God's gift to man. Who is Jonah to decide who is forgiven and who is not?

Our emotions can get in the way of God's work. We need to heed to the Word of God for instruction, even in difficult times. When we rebel, we find forgiveness in God's Word. Don't let your feelings get in the way of God's work. Instead, seek God's instruction in His Word and follow it.
