Mobutu claimed that what he termed "imperialists" had fanned the embers of tribalism in Nigeria and that he would give any help to Nigeria since his country had been through a similar situation.
Mobutu was on a tour of five African nations; the others were Chad, Sudan, Cameroon and Gabon from where he had come.
