Afshin Rattansi goes underground on the conditions in the Serco-run Yarl's Wood immigration centre. Meltem Avcil was detained there for three months at the age of 13 -- and now campaigns for the centre to stop incarcerating women in what she says are horrible conditions. Former editor of the BBC's Today Programme Rod Liddle tells us the country is now being run by an out-of-touch liberal elite -- despite the Tories being in government. We add up how much arms sales to a war-torn region are bringing in for David Cameron's government. Plus, how are bankers' bonuses affecting your rate of pay? And, who's behind the lobbying firms in our politicians' ears?

Serco gave this statement in response to accusations about Yarl's Wood:

Norman Abusin Director Yarl's Wood IRC said:

"The wellbeing of the people in our care is always our top priority. Our managers and staff work hard to establish and maintain good relationships with the residents and we expect the highest levels of integrity and professionalism from them at all times.

"Sexual contact between residents and staff is always completely unacceptable. We take any allegation of misconduct extremely seriously and there are two reporting systems, both independent of Serco, which residents can use to raise concerns. Complaints are thoroughly investigated and, if substantiated, disciplinary action is always taken. Where appropriate the relevant external authorities are notified and involved.

"Yarl's Wood is inspected regularly by HM Chief Inspector of Prisons as well as the Independent Monitoring Board which has unrestricted access to the Centre at all times. In the latest HMCIP report, issued in October 2013, inspectors praised the consistent and ongoing improvements at the Centre and reported that residents feel safe and there is little violence.

"The most recent Independent Monitoring Board (IMB), published only last month, also highlighted the good work taking place at the Centre to enhance and improve the lives of residents, such as the activities organised by our enthusiastic staff, the positive role played by the Chaplaincy and the healthcare team, and the expanded welfare support service.

"Our team provides a very high standard of care but we know that there is always room for improvement. Serco continues to work closely with the IMB, the Home Office and other external partners to make improvements at Yarl's Wood. For example, the popular Cultural Kitchen is now fully staffed and open Monday-Friday, and we are hoping to make the Care Suite a permanent feature by the end of the year."
