NH Homestead Maple Syrup Part 3: The Worst Time To Boil Sap

Saturday seemed like it was going to be the best day to begin boiling sap. The day started at 32ºF and I was hoping to spend a glorious, sun filled, warmish winter day boiling off some of the sap from out trees.

Little did I know, the temperature was going to drop and it was going to make my day much less fun. But the afternoon, I was standing over the evaporator for warmth, praying that sap would somehow boil off faster than usual. Hint: It didn't.

In any case, this video is a look at how we boil off our sap using a converted wood stove. On nicer days, it's a great time. The design of our evaporator could be a little more efficient, but it works for now. Next year, we have some changes we want to make.

This is a collaboration video with the following NH Homesteading channels! Go give them a watch as well!
