I use it with the AC adapter and not batteries so this is one of those "your mileage may vary" type of things.Using this on the rain setting really helps drown out the hum/buzz of my tinnitus and helps me fall asleep faster and easier.At first I thought the level of volume on this was broken because I Barely turn it up and its the perfect sound.
I had roughly 95% of the volume knob left to go.
It finally clicked that if someone lives by a train route or near a busy street or highway the volume settings at louder volumes would allow this to drown out those outside sounds.Im a very light sleeper so I dont use the timer setting.
I let this run all night long.One tip I have is to save the twist tie it comes with and reuse it to help organize the cable after you plug it in.
This way you wont have extra lengths of cord dangling anywhere where pets or kids might grab at it.Another tip is young kids may not like this.
My 3.5 year old refused to use it because she didnt like the way it looked.Pros;Great volume rangeHas worked for years no issuesCan be portable and used for travelThe LED light is not too bright that it keeps me awake.Cons;Its rather big taking up more space then I would like on my nightstand.Its design is rather space age, space ship or super modern so it wont fit in with every design look.Overall Im very happy with this purchase and the quality of sleep this helps me get.
I really like this Homedics sound machine. I previously purchased a batteries-only-operated sound machine for my son. When my daughter saw it, she wanted one, too.
However, my husband wanted us to find one that operated with an a/c plug so that we wouldn’t have to purchase batteries as often. If I had known about this one first, I would have purchased this brand over the other.
The volume control is nice, the timer feature is great, and it seems to help our daughter with falling asleep. It’s also an attractive design and doesn’t seem obtrusive on her bedside table.

I love mine it sounds so really and mine has lasted over 10 years. It does cut in and out at times but that’s just because it’s really old.
As many have pointed out, the volume knob can become flaky too soon. Applying pressure while turning the knob helps for a limited time, but eventually, that no longer works as well.
Ryans solution of using contact cleaner has so far worked for me as well (currently is the most popular review). Adding a picture to show where to spray the contact cleaner.
