Repentance, Biblical Counseling

We sometimes overlook that repentance is required for salvation. Jesus said, "unless you repent you will all likewise perish" Luke 13:3. What exactly is repentance? Is it saying that you are sorry? Yes, but much more importantly, it is a genuine change of heart, and a desire to restore broken relationships and repay any damages. True repentance is a deep sorrow over sins. David prayed, "I acknowledge my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me...the sacrifices of God are a broken heart, a broken and contrite heart" Psalm 51:3-17. There is great humility in this. One must admit they have been wrong. That is a major spiritual breakthrough. Sometimes it takes a person to be at the end of their rope.
