You might believe that if you keep yourself within the plain English reading of a statute, you'd be safe from criminal liability.

In fact, you'd be mistaken in that belief. Statutes don't mean what their plain English reading might suggest they mean. As a result, following the plain English reading of a statute can easily trap you into a lengthy prison sentence.
