Jan 2009, search on vitamin D &
the brain.
Does brain sleep center have a
vitamin D receptor?
-long strip of cells in brain stem:
sleep switches that make us
paralyzed: have vitamin D receptors
-also in switches that run our clock
coordinating our body 24 hours

circadian rhythm: light into eye,
-into brain, to these switches
Process
-light; eye; retinoids; vitamin A;
pineal gland;
-coordinated, through switches
tells body time to sleep
-issues chemical mixes: 'drowsy'
-suddenly you are 'sleepy'
so, get into 'nest' to be paralyzed
Sleep is clock-driven; aided by vitamin D

Walter Stumpf:
-vitamin A is vitamin & hormone
-vitamin D is hormone from sun/skin
coordinates us to winter/summer
"Hibernation: light wave length goes
away in winter [UVB]"
Things linked to seasons:
-fertility
-lower metabolic rate for sleep

Dermatologists, in 80s, just starting
to warn about sunburn...
Now: 'avoid the sun'
-it is crazy advice
"Being outside, as all animals and
as our ancestors, is not just about
vitamin D.
There are multiple other wavelengths
-we are the dummies who
went indoors!"
